Homosassa, FL
Bruce Edmund Hammett of Homosassa Springs passed away on February 16th, 2024 at the age
of 83. He is survived by his daughter Samantha (wife to Tim McCaul) of Easton, Massachusetts;
son Nicholas of Homosassa Springs and granddaughters Sydney and Stella.
Bruce was born on February 18, 1940 in Preston (Melbourne) Victoria Australia to the late
George Edmund (Ned) and Doris Hammett. He studied mechanical engineering at the Royal
Melbourne Institute of Technology, where he graduated in 1966. After graduating, Bruce
traveled throughout Canada and the United States before accepting an engineering position in
London England. While living in London, Bruce met his future wife, Constance Dorothy
(Bubbles) Plymen and enjoyed playing tennis, watching cricket and traveling throughout
Europe.
After Bruce and Bubbles were married in 1973, they settled in Melbourne Australia and started
their family. Career opportunities and Bruce’s sense of adventure led him to accept an
engineering position with Kimberly Clarke in Terrace Bay, Ontario and was later transferred to
their Roswell, Georgia site. Bruce continued to work in the pulp and paper industry and live
throughout the United States. He became a U.S. citizen in 1996 and maintained a dual
citizenship with Australia. In 2001, an interesting job within the oil business based in Alaska
beckoned. Bruce loved his time in Alaska and continued to work in the oil industry throughout
Alaska and California until he retired in 2014.
Bruce and Bubbles settled in Homosassa Springs in 2003, which is where they planned to retire.
Bubbles passed away in 2015; they had been married for nearly 42 years. In retirement, Bruce
enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, watched a lot of tennis and picked up pickle
ball. He also enjoyed traveling; taking multiple trips to Australia, South Africa and England.
