Donald T. Irwin, 82, of Beverly Hills, FL passed away on January 8, 2018 at Crystal River Health and Rehab in Crystal River, FL. Donald was born on September 11, 1935 in Sunnyside, Long Island, NY, son of John J. and Elizabeth (McAuliffe) Irwin. He graduated from Rice High School in Manhattan (1953) and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY (1957) with a B.A. Degree with majors in History and Marketing. He began his work career with Macy’s New York as a part time clerical in 1951 and was selected for the famed Executive Training Squad in 1957 and progressed to the Group Merchandise Manager of the Main Floor – Broadway Building – of the Herald Square store when he left the firm in 1967.
He then began his second career as a Senior Executive in Sales and Marketing in the Cosmetic Industry with ever increasing responsibility with firms such as Helena Rubinstein, Anne Klein, Giorgio Armani, Beverly Sassoon, Perfumers Workshop and Ahava with titles ranging from District Manager to Executive Vice President. He took early retirement and moved to Beverly Hills in 1995 where he was involved with many organizations and activities. He was a former member of the Irish American Club, the American Irish Club and the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Citrus County, FL where he was one of the original organizers of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Inverness.
He was a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Council #6168 where he was the Chancellor, Publicity Director, Chairman of the Tootsie Roll Drive, co-chairperson of the two Noel Kingston Irish Concerts at Curtis Peterson Hall in Lecanto and a member of the Bingo Committee.
He was also a member of the 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly #1547 where he formerly handled its publicity in addition to being the Assistant Commander of the Color Corp/Honor Guard.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Church where in addition to being a member and past officer of the Men’s Club, he was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, a clerical volunteer in the Parish Office on Mondays and former Director of the parish Blood Drive and current volunteer on its staff.
He also served his country for 6 years where he rose to the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps based in New York City.
Don is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Irwin of Beverly Hills, FL; his son, Sean Patrick Irwin and his wife Lynda of Westbury, NY; his daughter, Dr. Kathleen Mary Irwin of Fairchild, WI; his brother Kevin Irwin and wife Ellen of Levittown, Long Island, NY; sister, Barbara O’Donnell of Ossining, NY; sister in laws Mary Ann Irwin of East Rockaway, Long Island, NY, Sheila Murphy of New Fairfield, CT, and Patricia Bowring of Dallas, TX; and two grandsons, Daniel Ryan Irwin and Shane Patrick Irwin of Westbury, Long Island, NY; plus many cherished nephews, nieces, friends and acquaintances.
The family of Mr. Irwin will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Heinz Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills.
