Eugene "Gene" Harold Tufts, 82, of Floral City, died on July 22, 2019. Gene was born July 27, 1936 in Portland, Maine, son of Clifton and Helen Tufts.
Mr. Tufts worked for 20 years as a lineman for Jersey Central Power and Light. After his retirement, Gene and his wife, Lynda purchased and operated a Tupperware distributorship from 1975-1992 in Douglasville, PA, where they made many life long friends. After retirement from Tupperware, Gene moved to Floral City, FL.
Gene "Poppa" was larger than life in many good ways. He greatly loved his family and liked nothing more than being (24/7) with his wife and soulmate of 61 years, Lynda. He greatly loved his two children and his special daughter-in-law, his 5 grandsons (with whom he spent many a day/months/years) and his 3 great-grandsons. He served honorably as a US Marine (‘53-‘56), was a lifelong adult member of the Masons, the American Legion, the Shriner's, and the NRA. He was an excellent woodsman, an accomplished carpenter, and a pretty darn good wood-carver, and he loved everything about the state of Maine (except the cold weather). He was generous and giving to all, willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Mr. Tufts was preceded in death by his parents Clifton Russell Tufts and Helen Rollins Tufts, and sisters, Beatrice George Tufts and Marion Tufts. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lynda Tufts of Floral City; two children: his son and best friend, Clifton Eugene Tufts of Lutz, FL and his wife, Carol, and his beloved daughter, Crystal Tufts of Floral City, FL and her partner, Eugene McCombs of Reading, PA; five grandchildren, Dr. Ryan Eugene Tufts and his partner, Dr. Leigh Rosen of New York City, NY, Dr. Matthew Tufts and his wife Kristen of Punta Gorda, FL, Dr. Christopher Tufts and his wife Anne of Nashville, TN, Jake Tufts Tamny of Boston, MA and Max Tufts Tamny of Floral City, FL; three great grandchildren, Miller Clifton Tufts, Smith Steven Tufts and Christopher William Tufts, Jr. He was loved by many nieces and nephews including his faithful niece, Debbie Makela of Pensacola, FL.
Gene will be put to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with an Honor Guard service at 2:30 on Friday, August 2,2019. All are welcome to attend. A memorial church service and luncheon for family and close friends will precede the internment services.
