Gerald F. Horton, 84, of Inverness, FL died on August 19, 2016 at Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Inverness. Gerald was born in New York, NY, son of Charles and Madeline Horton. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Federal Government as a civil engineer in the Army Corps of Engineers. Gerald was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer.
Jerry was preceded in death by his twin brother, Paul and his son, Edward. Survivors include his wife, Judy Horton of Inverness, FL; seven children, Gerald Horton, Jr. of Orlando, FL, James Horton of St. Augustine, FL, Robert Horton and his wife Pat of Castle Rock, CO, John Horton and his wife, Sylvia of Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth Horton of Georgia, Judy DiBattisto and her husband David of Clermont, FL, and Timothy Horton of Jacksonville, FL; two step children, Lynn Taylor and her husband Alex of Maryville, TN and Thomas Taylor and his wife Courtney of Ft. Collins, CO; and eleven grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Mr. Horton at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, FL. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, 3280 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461. Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL.
