Jerry Childress

September 11, 1931 — April 19, 2018

Jerry Madison Childress , 86, of Inverness, FL, died on April 19, 2018.  Jerry was born on September 11, 1931 in Hazel Park, MI, the son of Herbert and Erma Childress.  He served in the US Navy during the Korean War.  Jerry retired from the Pompano Beach Fire Department after 21 years of service.  He moved to Inverness’s Eden Gardens in 1989.  He was a member of the Inverness Elks Lodge in Hernando, FL, the Eagles of Inverness, FL and the Inverness VFW Post 4337 where he served for many years as the Honor Guard Chaplain.

Jerry is survived by his nieces; Corrine Stewart, Luanne Davison, Nancy Harrell, Donna Wille and nephews; Tim Helms and Dan Dawson.

Honor Guard Services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.  Officiated by the Inverness VFW Post 4337 Honor Guard.  Those wishing to attend can join the funeral procession at Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness.   The procession will depart at 9:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Hospice of Citrus County and the Nature Coast.  Heinz Funeral Home & cremation, Inverness, FL.
