John P. Plevell, 64, of Citrus Springs, FL, passed away in Lecanto on June 20, 2024. He was born in St. Petersburg, FL, on August 17, 1959, to the late Adolph and Dorothy Plevell. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane Johnston.

John began his career in Law Enforcement in October of 1978. After being hired by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, he settled in with the Criminal Investigation Division, which brought him assignments in robbery, theft, career criminals, special investigations and homicide. John also enjoyed furthering his education; he earned multiple degrees: an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice Technology from Central Florida Community College, an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from St. Leo University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from LaSalle University. John was certified in the FBI National Academy and the US Department of Justice for the Citrus County Sheriff’s Department. He received a 100% Clearance Rate Blue Ribbon Award. John also appeared in multiple episodes of Swamp Murders, where he was able to share details of his investigations.

John retired in October of 2010 and enjoyed his Daytona Beach, Tennessee, Floral City and Dunnellon homes. He enjoyed watching sports, golfing, fishing, and being with his friends and family.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years, Diana Plevell; his daughter, Kristen Plevell; his sons, Paul Crowder and his wife Rosemary, and Michael Crowder and his wife Danielle; his cherished grandchildren, Kylar, Camden, Courtney, Kaitlyn, and Briana; and four precious great-grandchildren.
