Leonard L. Guenette, Sr. 75, of Inverness, FL, died on September 1, 2018. Leonard was born in Nashua, NH on October 14, 1942, the son of Lionel and Leonide Guenette. He was an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force during the Cubin Missile Crisis. He landed President John F. Kennedy in Air Force One at Mac Dill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL the week before Kennedy’s assassination. Lenny retired as a construction cost estimator in 2007. He moved to Inverness in 1983 from Oneonta, NY. Lenny was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and as an usher. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Other memberships include the American Legion, Citrus County Veterans Coalition, Kiwanis and as Past President of the Whispering Pines Village Association.
Lenny was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joanne Maine. Survivors include his wife Shirley Guenette of Inverness, FL; son Leonard L. Guenette, Jr. and his wife Marcy of Land O Lakes, FL, daughters, Diann Ashmore and her husband Steven of Brooksville, FL and Laura Guenette of Inverness, FL; five grandchildren, Mary-Kathryn Guenette, Dina Lee Mikule, Spencer Thomas Guenette, Karey-Anne Guenette and Connor Matthew Guenette.
Leonard’s family will receive friends at the Heinz Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Rosary service will begin at 3:30 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in inverness, FL. Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
