Lynn E. Brooks, 68, of Hernando, FL, passed away on September 4, 2021. She was born on December 6, 1952 in Olean, New York, the daughter of the late Frank “Mel” and Eleanor Fremming.
Lynn grew up in Largo, FL along with her two sisters. They were all active with horses, and bowling at their parents’ bowling alley, Largo Lanes, from 1957-1972. She graduated from Largo High School, Class of 1970 and was a member of the “Band of Gold”.
While working at Florida Power, Lynn met the love of her life, Larry Brooks, he had recently been discharged from the US Air Force. The two got married in October of 1974. They relocated to Citrus County in 1988, when Larry took a banking position in Inverness and at that point, Lynn retired from Florida Power after 20 years. She didn’t stay retired for too long, she began working at Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Inverness and brought her smiling face to work for over 28 years. Lynn loved her PGE family and all of the kids. She was always happy about making a difference in the lives of others. Many have referred to her as the Matriarch of Pleasant Grove Elementary.
In 2001, the couple built their home and farm in Hernando and called it, “Three Iron Farm” in reference to the bloodlines of their three American Quarter Horses.
Lynn enjoyed living on the farm and getting together with friends for food and fun. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Her favorite movie of all time was The Wizard of Oz.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Larry Brooks; her boys, Ironbunctious “Bunky”, Iron Bugzy McLeo “Bugs”, and Huckleberry Iron “Huck”; her two sisters, Lori Fremming and Lisa (Brian) Reese; niece, Dana (Jose) Gonzalez and nephews, Jose Sebastian (Danielle) Gonzalez Jr, and Lucas Gonzalez. She also leaves behind her loving adopted family, Shannon and Stacey Burns, Meghan, Cody and Corbin Maguire; and Austin, Lauryn and Rylyn Burns.
A Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 10, 2021 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, with Father Timothy Cummins presiding. A Private Interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Inverness Kiwanis Club, PO Box 2103, Inverness, FL 34451, to be used for a scholarship fund in Lynn’s name.
