Marguerite (Peg) R. Papa, 80, of Lecanto, FL, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Dec. 22, 2013 under the care of Hospice. Peg was born May 9, 1933 in Astoria, Queens, NY, the only child of Frank and Marguerite R. Crippa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Eugene J. Papa Sr., founder of Papa’s Dodge, Inc. in New Britain, CT and her beloved son, Eugene J. Papa, Jr.
Survivors include her three daughters, Lorrie Morton and her husband Alex of Lecanto, FL, Cordelia Papa and her partner David Bruhin of Southwick, MA and Betty La Plante and her husband Jim of Westfield, MA; grandchildren, Mac, Amber and Craig Morton of FL, Jim and Gina Loughery of MA, Joe and Jenny of MA, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; best friend Joan Sabottke of New Britain, CT, sister in law Helen Papa of Farmington, CT, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Peg and Eugene moved from New Britain, CT to Tolland, MA where they operated The Tolland Village Store where Peg made fresh baked pies and other treats daily. She also served as Tolland’s Town Clerk of several years. In 1989 they retired to Lecanto, Fl. Peg and Gene enjoyed making wooden crafts and traveling in their RV to craft shows.
Peg was a loving, caring and kind hearted person who put other’s first. She always said that “good things come in small packages” and she was a “great” small package with a “big” personality. She enjoyed cooking, crafting, crocheting and bingo. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all.
Peg will be laid to rest in Tolland, MA with her husband. Heinz Funeral Home, Inverness, Fl.
