Nathan J. Harris , 98, of Inverness, FL died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Nature Coast. Nathan was born December 2, 1915 in New York, New York the son of Benjamin and Anna (Fry) Harris. He worked for James J. Keating Trucking in New Jersey. He was recognized by the New Jersey Motor Truck association for his bravery in saving a fellow driver who had succumbed to fumes in his tanker truck.
Nathan moved to Inverness in 1987 from South Amboy, New Jersey. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where he volunteered at Helping Hands and was Chairman for Bingo. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Nathan was predeceased by his first wife Ella, son Glen, brothers Solomon, Jack and George and his sister Augustine and stepson Raymond.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Harris of Inverness, FL, children Geraldine and Gary; step daughter Barbara Zielinski.
Nathan’s family will receive friends at the Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in South Amboy, NJ.
