Paul A. Leeper, 93, of Inverness, FL went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2015 under the loving care of his daughter and caregiver, Marylou McNeil. Paul was born in Omaha, NE on January 20, 1922 to Lula Valentine Meador and Paul D. Leeper. He was a member of the Beverly Hills Community Church.
He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and shortly after joined the National Guard where he played the baritone for the 168th Infantry band. At the onset of WWII the National Guard was federalized and they were sent to Algiers, North Africa where they were captured. Paul spent 27 months in a German prison camp.
Upon his return, he worked as an electrician and a contractor in heating and air conditioning for most of his career. He moved to Clearwater, Florida in 1958 with his family. He was the first electrical contractor to help launch the community of Beverly Hills built by the late Sam Kellner. Later, he moved to Lecanto and built the county’s first underground house. Upon retiring his son, Paul Leeper II, took over operation of Leeper Air Conditioning and Heating which is still in business today.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Leeper, parents Lula and Paul D. Leeper, sister Bessie Stewart and brother Bob Leeper.
He is survived by his four children Nancy Scott of Omaha NE; Dennis Beebe of Medellin, Columbia; Paula Conley of Inverness; Paul Leeper II and wife Michelle of Lecanto; sister Betty Smith of Tucson, AZ; brother Richard and wife Carol of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law, Pauline Leeper of Council Bluffs, IA; Pete and Julie Keifer and Ormond Beach, FL; grandchildren Stephen Conley (Shannon), Brad Conley, Ashley Smerecki (Ray), Jacob Leeper, Jim Keifer (Lisa) and Pam (Bob) Simmons, Julie Frolio (Terry), Tarie Beck (Bret), Danny Scott, Erica Beebe, and Dianne Phillips, niece.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Beverly Hills Community Church with Pastor Stewart Jamison presiding. Interment with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
