Robert Stevenson McEwan , 92, passed away on November 26, 2014, a resident of Inverness, Florida. He was born on November 12, 1922 in Little Falls, NJ to his parents, Marion and John McEwan. He was the youngest of five siblings. His brothers and sisters, Victor, Marion, Ralph, and Effie, all predeceased him. He was known to his friends and family as Bob. He attended Montclair High School after which he enlisted in the Armed Services and was assigned to the Army Air Corps. He served in England with a B-17 bomber group and flew more than 30 missions during World War II, primarily as a tail gunner. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a staff sergeant and certified as a gunnery trainer. After completing his service obligation, Robert worked for the NCR Corporation, first in repairs and later as a manager, for his entire employment career until his retirement in 1979. Throughout his lifetime he was a skilled woodworker, pursuing that craft as a hobby.
In 1947 Robert married Miriam Louise Ferguson of Jamestown, NY and they ultimately settled in Ramsey, NJ to raise a family. In 1979, Robert and his wife, known to all as Louise, resettled in Inverness where they lived together until she passed away in 2010.
A devoted father and loving husband he will be very much missed by his son, Robert S. McEwan, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, his grandchildren Kyle McEwan and Anne Gabel, and her husband, John; his daughter, Marsue Jateff, and her husband, Bob, his grandchildren Emily Hunter and her husband, James, William Jateff, and his wife, Autumn; three great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and other relations.
Mr. McEwan’s family will receive friends from 1:30 pm to the hour of services on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness, FL. Pastor Eugene Reuman of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church will officiate services at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
