Robert “Bob” Donald Helt, 87, of Hernando, Florida passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021. He was born June 26, 1934 in Staten Island, New York, the son of Henry and Ruth (Mackenzie) Helt.
Bob and Florence were married in 1956 at Castleton Hill Moravian Church and moved from New York to Citrus County, Florida in 1971. Bob was an U.S. Army Veteran and served in Germany. Bob worked for Otis Elevators and also performed paint and auto body work while living in New York. He was employed in the residential and commercial construction field in Citrus and surrounding counties for over 30 years. Bob was a true craftsman and took pride in everything he did. Bob helped construct many homes and landmarks throughout the county including Whispering Pines Park in Inverness. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, game shows and Cadillacs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Florence Helt, his son Dean Helt, granddaughter Lisa Helt and sister Joyce Morey. He is survived by his sons Gregg D. (Karen) of Dunnellon, Scott A. (Sophia) of Inverness, and his daughters Dawn E. (Robert) Burkett of Homosassa, Lynne M. (Darren) Pillsbury of Inverness, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness. The family will receive friends in visitation from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Mr. Helt will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
