William Thacher

William A. Thacher , 87, of Inverness, FL, died on June 15, 2014 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.  He was born the son of Stephen and Alvina Thacher on July 2, 1926 in Blue Island, IL.  Bill was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan.  He moved to Plantation, FL in November 1953.  He retired from the Robert O. Law Foundation in 1980 as the administrator. Bill moved to Inverness in 1987.  He was a life member of the Inverness Kiwanis Club and the VFW.    Bill was a long time volunteer for Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Bill was preceded in death by his son  Robert J. Thatcher.  Survivors include his wife of  66 years, Jean J. Thacher of Inverness, FL; son William J. Thacher (Jody) of Pine Island, FL, daughter Jill A. Thacher (Anthony Conti) of Inverness, FL. Five grandchildren, Joshua, Danielle, Nichole, Jenna and Casey; three great grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Piper.

The Thatcher family will receive friends from 10:30 am to the hour of service on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am.  Interment with military honors will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.  Memorials may be given to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.  Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL
